Now in its fifth year, the Channel NewsAsia Luminary Awards not only give due recognition to the best business minds in Asia, they are also a means to inspire and motivate the business community and industrialists to achieve excellence in their respective fields.
The company must be headquartered in Asia.
The company's main business must deal with at least an Asia-wide market and must have made an impact in the region.
The recipient/company must display high levels of integrity, business acumen as well as leadership.
The Lifetime Achievement and Future Business Luminary Awards are handed out to individuals while the Innovation and Green Luminary Awards are handed out to companies.
The recipient/company must be a newsmaker on any of the MediaCorp platforms.
Recipients of the Channel NewsAsia Luminary Awards undergo a stringent selection process. This year, Channel NewsAsia has teamed up with Deloitte Analytics, DP Information, GreenA Consultants and Singapore Management University to oversee the process.
Together with our Knowledge and Research partners, candidates will be shortlisted from the Innovation, Green & Future Business Survey and analysed based on quantifiable quality data under stringent, objective and transparent criteria. This includes financial performance, creativity, innovation, social responsibility and the ability to create short-term advantage, long-term value and competitive edge.
Nominees will then be evaluated and determined by a distinguished and independent jury panel consisting of world-renowned management strategists, academics and corporate personalities.
Ms. Janet Ang Managing Director IBM Singapore
Ms. Ang has been in the IT industry for 32 years since joining IBM as a Systems Engineer with a BBA (Honours) from NUS in 1982. She has held various leadership roles in her 28 years as an IBMer and the 4 years at Lenovo including - Director, Sales Operations, IBM Asia Pacific; VP, Global Desktop Operations, Lenovo Group; VP, Strategic Client Services, IBM Greater China. Ms. Ang serves on various boards including PUB, iDA, ISS, NVPC, Caritas (Singapore) and is President of International Women's Forum - Singapore. While living in Beijing, Ms. Ang served as trustee on the board of International School of Beijing, was the Vice-Chair of SingCham (China) and advisor to the NUS Business School Alumni North China Chapter.
Mr. Scott Anthony Managing Partner Innosight
Mr. Anthony is the Managing Partner of Innosight, a consulting and investment company that focuses on strategic transformation, disruptive change, and business model innovation. Based in Innosight's Singapore office since 2010, he also leads its Asian consulting operations and its venture-capital investment activities. He is the author, most recently, of The First Mile: A Launch Manual for Getting Great Ideas Into the Market (Harvard Business Review Press, May 2014) and has authored or co-authored five previous books, including Seeing What's Next (with Harvard's Clayton Christensen) and The Little Black Book of Innovation. Mr. Anthony is on the Board of Directors of MediaCorp, a diversified media company based in Singapore, and chairs the investment committee for IDEAS Ventures. He received a BA in economics, summa cum laude, from Dartmouth College and an MBA with high distinction from Harvard Business School, where he was a Baker Scholar. He has a regular column at the Harvard Business Review Blog Network and his Twitter feed is @ScottDAnthony.
Mr. Walter Fernandez Editor-in-Chief MediaCorp Pte Ltd
Mr Fernandez is the Editor-in-Chief of MediaCorp. A Singapore Press Holdings scholar, he started his career in journalism in 1995 at The Straits Times, writing on both politics and economics. He rose to be one of the paper's senior correspondents and was seconded to help then Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew with his memoirs. He joined MediaCorp in 2001 as the Night Editor at Channel NewsAsia Singapore where he was responsible for its flagship local news bulletin Singapore Tonight. In 2004, he took over as Executive Editor of Channel NewsAsia International overseeing the channel's correspondents and international coverage. In 2006, Mr Fernandez joined TODAY, as its Editor and in July 2013 he was appointed Editor-in-Chief – overseeing all news and current affairs content across all of MediaCorp's television, newspaper, radio and digital platforms.
Professor Arnoud De Meyer President Singapore Management University
Professor De Meyer is the fourth President of Singapore Management University. Previously, he was Director of Judge Business School at the University of Cambridge where he was Professor of Management Studies and Fellow of Jesus College. He was associated for 23 years with INSEAD where he held various senior academic and administrative positions, including founding Dean of INSEAD's Asia Campus in Singapore. He is an external director of Dassault Systèmes SA (France), as well as a board member of the National Research Foundation, Singapore International Chamber of Commerce, Temasek Management Services and Singapore Symphonia Company Limited. Prof De Meyer has been consultant to a number of companies throughout Europe and Asia and his works are published widely in academic journals and books.
Ms. Ong Chih Ching Executive Chairman and Executive Director KOP Limited
Ms. Ong is responsible for the strategic planning and development of the Group's business and spearheads its expansion and growth. Prior to the reverse takeover, she was the chairman and founder of KOP Properties Pte Ltd, and CEO of KOP Group. Prior to establishing KOP Properties Pte Ltd, Ms. Ong worked as a lawyer, specialising in corporate and property law. She was a founding partner of the Singapore law firm, Koh, Ong & Partners, where she specialised in corporate and real estate transactions. To better meet the needs of her client base of high net worth individuals and private and public equity institutions, she co-founded Koh Ong & Partners Management Services Pte Ltd in 1999, providing secretarial, consultancy and corporate management services. Ms. Ong is also the Founder and First Honorary Secretary for the Securities Investors Association (Singapore), an association with one of the largest memberships in the country and which represents investors' interests in listed companies.
Mr. Jim Rogers Investment Expert and Author
Mr. Rogers is an author, financial commentator, adventurer, and successful international investor. After attending Yale and Oxford University, he co-founded the Quantum Fund, a global-investment partnership. During the next 10 years, the portfolio gained 4200%, while the S&P rose less than 50%. Mr. Rogers then decided to retire – at age 37. Continuing to manage his own portfolio and travelling, he kept busy serving as a full professor of finance at the Columbia University Graduate School of Business, and, in 1989 and 1990, as the moderator of WCBS's 'The Dreyfus Roundtable' and FNN's 'The Profit Motive with Jim Rogers'. Two of Jim's Guinness Records were for circumnavigating the world by motorcycle for two years and by car for three years. The trips were chronicled in Investment Biker and Adventure Capitalist. Mr. Rogers's recent book A Gift to My Children is a heartfelt, indispensable guide for his daughters (as well as for all adults and children) to find success and happiness. His latest memoir Street Smarts: Adventures on the Road and in the Markets was published in February 2013.
Ms Soon is responsible for the programming, branding, marketing and distribution of Channel NewsAsia, TODAY and 938Live, including their digital platforms channelnewsasia.com and TODAYonline.com. She took on this portfolio in a streamlining of the company's activities to sharpen its focus on customers. She oversees the enhancement of these news products and their commercial value.
With over 20 years of experience in the media and communications industry, Ms Soon was appointed Managing Director of Channel NewsAsia in March 2009. She was responsible then for the editorial for English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil news and current affairs, as well as the business operations of Channel NewsAsia.
Ms Soon is a mentor/member of Board Agender and an executive committee member of UN Women, formerly known as UNIFEM Singapore. She is also on the Business Advisory Board of the Behavioural Sciences Institute of the Singapore Management University.
